Every October, communities around the world unite for National Bullying Prevention Month — a movement first launched in 2006 by the PACER National Bullying Prevention Center to raise awareness of bullying and promote kindness, inclusion, and resilience. What began as a week-long campaign grew into a full month in 2010, reflecting the urgency and importance of the issue.

One of the most recognisable events of the month is Unity Day, when people wear orange to symbolise support for children and families affected by bullying and to send a message of solidarity: no child should feel alone.

At Liaura, we know that bullying — whether in school corridors or online spaces — has long-lasting impacts on children’s wellbeing. The digital world, in particular, can amplify these harms. Cyberbullying doesn’t end at the classroom door; it follows children into their homes, often unseen by parents until the damage is done.

That’s why Liaura was built as a safeguarding-first platform. We’ve embedded advanced moderation and AI-powered safeguarding tools directly into the structure of the app, giving families a safe environment where children can connect, learn, and play under the guidance of their guardians. But safety is not just about protection — it’s also about empowerment. By teaching digital confidence, resilience, and respect, Liaura helps prepare young people to thrive in the connected world they are inheriting.

As our founder, Hugh Shepherd, puts it:

“Digital safety isn’t simply about managing risk or enforcing rules, it’s about building readiness, cultivating confidence, resilience and critical thinking for the complex digital world children are inheriting. The time to start is now.”

This National Bullying Prevention Month, we stand with children, families, and schools everywhere. Together, we can build digital spaces that don’t just prevent harm, but actively nurture kindness, inclusion, and growth.

Let’s wear orange, speak up, and take action — and let’s reimagine a digital world where every child feels safe, supported, and inspired.
